I came across Canon Pixma paper models on the internet. They have paper designs that you print out and basically cut out and paste together to form a 3D image. Not surprisingly, you do need alot of paper, and ink to print but its a great gift for a friend. It also is enjoyable to make!
I just took this photo recently of what I made, but it's been sitting in my room for a year. The box frame was $10.
